Carl Ellison is President and Chief Executive Officer of the Indiana Minority Health Coalition (IMHC), a statewide health advocacy organization he helped found in 1992. He previously served for more than 10 years as Chief Operating Officer of the organization. Prior to joining IMHC, Carl was Executive Director of the Butler County Ohio Community Health Centers where he managed a network of community health centers.For nearly 20 years, Carl served in various positions at Memorial Hospital of South Bend ending as Vice President of Community Affairs.  He has also served as the Director of Community and Economic Development of the City of South Bend and within the U.S. Small Business Administration in Washington D.C. as Deputy Associate Administrator for Minority Small Business. Carl earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Black Studies from the University of Notre Dame.

“The whole first year and a half was a learning curve. It was as if we didn’t know what we didn’t know. The primary thing we learned was people just needed an outlet to talk to somebody they trusted. Our work was more about connecting with people than it was about finding money to expand our reach. People just needed somebody who cared. So I often said to myself “what could we do more of? I wish we had the resources to do a lot more work.”
