American Democracy and Health Security

Lighting a path forward amid pandemic Polarization

In the News

On 25 July at 12:00PM ET the Pandemic Center will host a webinar titled Lamplighters: A Path Forward for American Democracy & Health Security.

Event Description

The American Democracy and Health Security Initiative recently released urgent recommendations drawn from  a major 18-month examination of  how state and local leaders—governors and mayors; health experts and emergency response officials; community, nonprofit, and faith-based groups; educators; and business leaders—bridged divides across sectors and silos to enable a more effective response to COVID-19. These “Lamplighters” illuminated the way to meet the challenges of the pandemic, charting a path toward a better American response to future health emergencies. The Initiative’s website includes findings and recommendations from this groundbreaking effort.

This event will convene pandemic “lamplighters” to discuss ways to meet the challenges of the next pandemic in a polarized world. It will be hosted by Beth Cameron, Professor of Practice and Senior Adviser to the Pandemic Center. The panel will include:

  • Carl Ellison, President and CEO, Indiana Minority Health Coalition
  • Teresa Hutson, Corporate Vice President, Technology for Fundamental Rights
  • Judy Monroe, President and CEO, CDC Foundation

This webinar is part of the Pandemics & Society series, which focuses on current pandemic threats and response systems as well as how to build preparedness for the future.
