Jenny Durkan is an American attorney and served as the 56th mayor of Seattle, Washington. Durkan currently chairs the Washington State Bar Association Task Force on Emerging Technologies and the Practice of Law. She led the city’s response during the COVID-19 pandemic. With a background as an attorney and a federal prosecutor, Durkan began her term as mayor of Seattle in 2017. COVID-19 arrived in her city just two years later, making Seattle the early epicenter of COVID-19 cases in the United States. She is the first woman to have led Seattle in nearly a century. Previously, Durkan was the chief federal law enforcement officer in Western Washington and has also served as the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Washington. She has a J.D. from the University of Washington School of Law and a BA from the University of Notre Dame. Durkan’s leadership and achievements in her legal career have been recognized and honored with numerous awards, including the  Distinguished Alumni from the University of Washington School of Law, Seattle Municipal League’s Warren G. Magnuson Memorial Award, Passing the Torch Award from the Washington Women Lawyers, and the Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle’s Spirit Award.
